Rebecca SparksRebecca Sparks ’71 has long considered herself an advocate for social justice. As a student at Scripps 50 years ago, she remembers the influence of the civil rights movement and sees parallels with the Black Lives Matter movement and current events. So when the time came to consider her Scripps legacy, she knew she wanted to help make Scripps more accessible for BIPOC students.

Made during her Reunion year, Sparks planned gift will support racial justice and equity initiatives at Scripps. This gift represents her desire to learn from history, reverse narrow-minded behavior, and advance Scripps’ efforts toward becoming a more inclusive college.

Says Sparks, “I want our young women to respect, empathize with, and learn from each other, irrespective of their backgrounds.”
