Ellen Clark Revelle ’31

Ellen Clark RevelleEllen Clark Revelle '31, was the great niece of Ellen Browning Scripps and Board of Trustee member. Her service and support of Scripps College, along with many other philanthropic causes, is legendary. She joined the Board of Trustees in 1938 as an alumna trustee and served continuously since 1947 as a trustee and then as an emerita trustee. Her many contributions to the College through the years have been thoughtful and far-reaching. Although she had a biological link to the College's founder, she also echoed Miss Scripps in her philanthropic spirit. Her generosity supported numerous programs and projects during her lifetime and beyond. Ellen's two-million dollar bequest supports the Ellen Clark Revelle Scholarship, affectionately known as the Nellie, one of the most prestigious and comprehensive scholarships at Scripps. The recipient is designated as an Ellen Clark Revelle Scholar, and the package includes stipends for books and a summer internship to pursue additional leadership opportunities; upon graduation, the fund will also repay a portion of the packaged amount of need-based loans that the student has borrowed.
